Scale Operator – North York

About the role

The Scale Operator ensures accurate weighing of inbound and outbound vehicles, shipments and containers at Gerdau’s North York facility. Working closely with dispatch, yard staff and customers, the role is essential for maintaining precise inventory and billing records.

Key responsibilities

• Greet customers, verify material grade and collect required paperwork.
• Weigh customer, carrier and company vehicles using the main scale and record supplier, truck ID, contract number, material description, gross, tare and net weights.
• Generate and distribute scale tickets, process load deductions, and apply re‑pricing directives.
• Maintain daily purchase and sales transaction logs, assigning appropriate order numbers.
• Process scale payments, adjust contracts, issue cash payments and mail or fax tickets as requested.
• Answer the main telephone line, redirect calls and keep constant radio contact with yard personnel, including emergency handling.
• Enforce safety procedures, PPE requirements and monitor yard arm operations.
