SAFER Support Worker – Casual Call Out

About the role

The SAFER Support Worker provides peer‑based harm reduction support to participants of the SAFER program, a community‑driven safer supply clinic. Working under the Clinic Care Manager, you will use your lived experience with criminalized drug use to build trust, distribute supplies, and ensure a respectful environment.

Key responsibilities

• Identify potential participants, share information about pharmaceutical alternatives, and assist with assessments and intakes.
• Witness and record medication doses, welcome participants, and distribute safer‑use and safer‑sex supplies, including naloxone kits.
• Monitor participants using substances, assess for overdose symptoms, and respond with rescue breathing and naloxone as needed.
• Maintain safety protocols, provide harm‑reduction information, and make referrals to health and social services.
• Document interactions, keep the program space clean, and attend team and supervision meetings.

Required profile

• Lived or living experience with criminalized drug use and related health/social barriers.
• Minimum two years of direct service delivery in harm‑reduction settings, including overdose response and naloxone administration.
• Understanding of confidentiality, boundaries, and harm‑reduction principles.
• First‑aid training and current knowledge of local drug trends.

What we offer

• Starting pay of $33.49 CAD per hour with stepped increases based on seniority.
• Union‑protected position (BCGEU) with pension contributions and additional 5 % vacation and statutory pay.
• Casual shift schedule (up to 7.5 hours per day, Sunday‑Saturday, 9:30 am‑9:00 pm) at two Victoria locations.
