Residential Worker – Emergency Youth Shelter

About the role

BGC Okanagan is seeking a Residential Worker for our Emergency Youth Shelter in the Downtown Youth Centre. In this role you will provide direct support to youth by ensuring their physical, emotional, social, educational, housing and medical needs are met.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in case management and care planning, conduct assessments and develop Personal Service Plans (PSPs) for residents.
• Coordinate with counsellors, professionals and natural supports to create appropriate PSPs and contribute to progress evaluations.
• Provide life‑skills training such as meal preparation, housekeeping, personal care and financial management.
• Transport and support residents to appointments, shopping and leisure activities.
• Engage residents in client‑focused activities aligned with their PSPs.
• Promote safety, prevent crises and respond to emergencies, including managing aggressive behaviours.
• Administer or monitor client medications and, if trained, provide Naloxone in emergencies.
• Maintain accurate records, logs, case notes and incident reports.
• Perform household and facility maintenance duties including laundry, cleaning, grocery shopping and snow removal.

Required profile

• Certificate in a related human or social services field.
• Minimum of one (1) year of recent, relevant experience.
• Equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
• Successful completion of the agency’s screening process, including a criminal record check.
