Researcher – Agentic Interaction Engineering

About the role

Huawei Canada’s Human‑Machine Interaction Lab is seeking a researcher to design and implement agentic AI applications that dynamically interact with external tools, APIs, and computer environments. The role focuses on advancing multimodal interaction and autonomous agent systems for smartphones, wearables, and emerging devices.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement agentic applications that enable AI to interact with external tools, APIs, and environments.
• Experiment with novel methodologies such as harness engineering to improve task execution using large language models and autonomous agents.
• Collaborate with AI researchers, engineers, and UX/UI designers on human‑AI interaction projects.
• Address technical challenges including agent reliability, context‑window management, and error recovery.
• Evaluate and optimise performance, token efficiency, and reasoning latency of agentic interactions.

Required profile

• Graduates (PhD, Master, or Bachelor) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Machine Learning, AI, Software Engineering, or related fields.
• Strong programming skills in high‑level languages such as Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or C++.
• Familiarity with algorithms, data structures, LLM APIs, and prompt engineering.
• Analytical ability and quick learning in a rapidly evolving AI landscape.
• Passion for AI, autonomous systems, and next‑generation human‑AI collaboration.
