Researcher – Agent Platform R&D

About the role

The Distributed Data Storage and Management Lab at Huawei Canada is seeking a researcher to lead the design and evolution of its proprietary open‑source agent framework. You will work on cutting‑edge agent architectures, integrate emerging technologies, and ensure the framework meets the needs of both internal and external developers.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in core design and development of the agent framework, including architectural evolution, module abstraction, and toolchain construction.
• Track and dissect emerging agent projects such as OpenClaw and Hermes, extracting innovative ideas for integration.
• Design and implement mainstream and advanced agent architectures, exploring self‑evolution and multi‑agent collaboration mechanisms.
• Drive deployment of the framework in real‑world B2B and B2C products, gathering feedback to continuously improve the solution.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or higher (or equivalent practical experience) in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning, or related fields.
• Strong programming skills with proficiency in Python and familiarity with asynchronous programming, type systems, and engineering best practices.
• Experience maintaining or contributing to open‑source projects is a plus.
• Deep understanding of large language models (GPT, Claude, Qwen, LLaMA) and related techniques such as prompt engineering, context management, and function calling.
• Familiarity with at least one agent framework (LangChain, AutoGen, CrewAI) and ability to critically evaluate its architecture.
