Research Engineer - AI Data Security

About the role

Huawei Canada’s Digital Trust Lab is seeking a Research Engineer to design AI data security architectures and privacy‑preserving technologies for endpoint devices, driving research into production‑grade defenses.

Key responsibilities

• Research and design cutting‑edge AI data security architectures and privacy protection technology blueprints for endpoint devices (desktops, laptops, mobile).
• Propose, prototype, and build innovative AI data security and privacy‑preserving solutions for Huawei Endpoint products.
• Investigate global technology developments, regulatory shifts, and emerging attack vectors, producing actionable insights.
• Collaborate closely with global research labs and product engineering teams to accelerate integration of research prototypes into commercial products.

Required profile

• PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field (or Master’s with 3+ years relevant experience).
• Deep theoretical and practical understanding of advanced system‑level security and privacy protection technologies.
• Expertise in AI‑specific security engineering, such as safety alignment, data poisoning protection, robust learning, backdoor detection, etc.
• Strong foundations in cryptographic concepts, including symmetric‑key and public‑key cryptography.

Required skills

• Proficiency in C/C++, Java, or Python.
• Knowledge of symmetric‑key cryptography (block ciphers, MAC, authenticated encryption).
• Knowledge of public‑key cryptography (digital signatures, encryption, key establishment).
