Research Engineer - Agentic Software Systems Engineering

Huawei Canada’s Intelligent Complex Systems Team is seeking a Research Engineer to develop an agentic software system engineering framework that spans foundation models, code‑agent tooling, and higher‑level system engineering. The role involves researching how code agents transform software engineering, designing human–agent collaboration paradigms, and building full‑stack capabilities for multi‑agent development.

The candidate will prototype and evaluate a complete framework, investigate multi‑agent coordination patterns for planning, coding, reviewing, testing, and debugging at repository‑scale, and create reusable assets such as sub‑agents, skill libraries, prompt engineering modules, and workflow templates. Contributions will support the incubation of end‑to‑end code‑agent products powered by multi‑agent systems.

Ideal applicants hold a PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, AI or a related field, and have hands‑on experience with modern code‑agent tools and system‑engineering methodologies. A strong background in AI‑driven software development workflows, multi‑agent coordination, and the ability to translate research ideas into scalable prototypes is required.

Technical proficiency in Python is essential, with additional experience in TypeScript, Go, or C/C++ considered valuable. Publications at top‑tier venues or significant open‑source contributions to code‑agent frameworks are highly valued.
