About the role

The Faculty of Forestry at UBC seeks a Research Assistant (Tech 4) to design, develop, and apply ecological and carbon models for the Mother Tree Project & Program. Working under Dr. Suzanne Simard, you will lead data analyses, produce peer‑reviewed manuscripts, and collaborate with First Nations partners.

Key responsibilities

  • Design and implement complex analysis plans for novel ecological and carbon datasets.
  • Develop predictive carbon models to support forest stewardship decisions.
  • Lead data gathering, cleaning, and quality‑control processes.
  • Prepare manuscript‑ready documents for peer‑reviewed journals.
  • Create protocols and entry‑level modelling workflows for junior researchers.
  • Provide forestry management recommendations in collaboration with First Nations communities.
  • Write reports and contribute to ethics and grant applications.

Required profile

  • Independent researcher with strong analytical judgement.
  • Experience in ecological or carbon modelling.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including First Nations partners.
  • Excellent written communication for scientific publications.
