Registered Nurse – Family Birthing Centre

About the role
The Family Birthing Centre at Michael Garron Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse to provide safe, family‑centred care to patients throughout labour, birth and postpartum. The RN will apply the nursing process, critical thinking and leadership to assess and support mothers and newborns while collaborating with the multidisciplinary care team.
Key responsibilities
- Assess all patients entering the Family Birthing Centre and develop individualized care plans.
- Deliver nursing care across ante‑partum, intrapartum and post‑partum phases, including scrubbing and circulating for caesarean sections.
- Utilise evidence‑based practices, critical thinking and scientific judgment to ensure patient safety.
- Collaborate with physicians, midwives and allied health professionals to achieve quality outcomes.
- Provide education to clients and families to support informed choices about labour and newborn care.
- Maintain accurate documentation using Cerner PowerChart maternity and Fetal Link.
Required profile
- Current RN registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Minimum one year recent full‑time experience in labour and birth nursing.
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) and Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certifications.
- Breastfeeding certificate (21 hours) – to be completed within six months if not already held.
- Obstetrical/Maternity certificate or equivalent program (completion required within two years if not already held).
- Certification in fetal monitoring (AWHONN and/or CMNRP).
- Demonstrated family‑centred care philosophy and strong communication skills.
- Willingness to work in both labour/birth and postpartum areas.
Required skills
- Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) certification
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification

- Breastfeeding education certificate (21 hours)
