Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic (Mining Equipment)

About the role

Elk Valley Resources (EVR) is seeking Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanics to maintain its fleet of large-scale mobile mining equipment across four mining operations in the Elk Valley, British Columbia. The role is site-based, covering preventive maintenance, major repairs, troubleshooting and diagnostics on equipment such as CAT 797s, D11s, 24Ms, Komatsu 980Es and the P&H 4800 electric shovel. Shift schedules of 4x4 and 8x8 days and nights are available.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine preventative maintenance and major equipment repairs
• Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic issues
• Repair major breakdowns and disassemble, inspect, repair and reassemble engines, transmissions and other major components
• Repair cooling, fuel, exhaust, braking, clutch, differential, hydraulic, electrical and lubrication systems
• Maintain and repair off-road mining equipment such as haul trucks, graders, bulldozers, excavators, shovels and loaders
• Prepare maintenance reports and service records, recommend practical repair solutions and follow industry best practices
• Work with equipment made by CAT, Komatsu, P&H, Hitachi, John Deere, LeTourneau, Volvo, Marion and others, and work independently and as part of a maintenance team

Required profile

• Valid Interprovincial Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic certification or equivalent
• Valid driver's licence
• Ability to commute to or relocate near Sparwood, BC; temporary housing options are offered
• Willingness to meet a pre-employment drug screen and provide three professional references
• Preferred: experience with off-road heavy equipment and a background in mining, construction, agriculture, forestry, oil and gas or similar heavy industry
