Puppy Development Trainer

About the role

The Puppy Development Trainer supports CNIB Guide Dogs by overseeing the puppy raising program. You will recruit, train, and manage volunteer puppy raisers, ensuring a steady supply of healthy, well‑socialized puppies for future guide‑dog training.

Key responsibilities

• Recruit, interview, and select volunteer puppy raisers and boarders.
• Provide ongoing training, coaching, and performance management for volunteers.
• Monitor and record each puppy’s social, educational, temperamental, and physical development.
• Maintain accurate health and progress documentation.
• Match puppies with appropriate raisers and identify candidates ready for advanced training.
• Organise and deliver regular training classes for volunteers, including venue selection and cost negotiation.
• Identify behavioural issues and implement suitable interventions.
• Report health concerns promptly and recommend spaying/castration timing.
• Investigate and document complaints or accidents in line with health‑and‑safety policies.

Required profile

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in written and spoken English.
• Demonstrated aptitude for handling puppies and dogs of various breeds, ages, and temperaments.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Physical stamina to walk long distances and manage active dogs.
