Product Design Engineer (Remote, Contract)

About the role

This is a remote, contract position for a Product Design Engineer who will create and refine 3D models using OpenSCAD. You will work 10‑40 hours per week, translating conceptual sketches into production‑ready designs.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, document, and optimise OpenSCAD scripts for simple and complex CAD models.
• Transform conceptual sketches into detailed, production‑ready designs.
• Use advanced OpenSCAD features such as Boolean operations, list comprehensions, flow control, linear_extrude, rotate_extrude, and minkowski.
• Build 3D shapes from 2D shadows and efficiently place basic forms within the design space.
• Design repeatable components using nesting and loop constructs.

Required profile

• Deep, hands‑on experience and proficiency in OpenSCAD; experience with other CAD systems is not sufficient.
• Strong command of OpenSCAD syntax, constants, operators, special variables, and modifier characters.
• Expertise with 2D and 3D object creation, transformations, and Boolean operations.
• Experience with advanced OpenSCAD features including lists, list comprehensions, flow control, and type‑test functions.
• Practical knowledge of the OpenSCAD interface and workflow.
• Fluent written and verbal communication skills to explain technical concepts clearly.
