Principal Compiler Engineer

About the role

Huawei Canada’s Heterogeneous Compiler Lab is seeking a Principal Compiler Engineer to lead the design, development, and optimization of compiler technologies across AI, GPU, and CPU architectures.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and test software that meets business requirements for a wide range of products.
• Analyze and optimize system performance and support software‑hardware co‑design.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to define project requirements and create development plans for productization.
• Provide leadership in scrums, code reviews, and project planning while fostering team building.
• Mentor junior developers through education sessions, code reviews, and career development activities.
• Research industry trends and propose new technical directions for the team.

Required profile

• 8+ years of experience in large software projects using C++, C, or Java.
• Demonstrated experience in at least two of the following areas: production compilers (LLVM/Clang), language runtimes (JVM), deep‑learning frameworks (TensorFlow, Caffe2, MXNet, ONNX, TVM), GPU drivers (Vulkan, OpenGL, DirectX, CUDA/OpenCL), or hardware accelerators (GPUs, NPUs, FPGAs).
• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and processor architecture.
• Proficiency with software development tools such as source control and bug‑tracking systems.
• Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field (advanced degree is a plus).
