Power System Analyst

About the role

Huawei Canada’s Smart Grid Technology Lab is seeking a Power System Analyst on a 12‑month contract to develop and validate real‑time simulation models for power systems and power electronics.

Key responsibilities

• Develop accurate simulation models of power systems and power electronics using tools such as PSCAD, EMTP, Hypersim, OPAL‑RT, RSCAD, etc.
• Implement and validate simulation models to assess system performance under various scenarios and operating conditions.
• Perform detailed analysis of electromagnetic transient simulation results and provide insights into grid stability, fault response, and dynamic behavior.
• Collaborate with the research and development team to investigate emerging technologies and prepare technical reports based on simulation findings.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field with a focus on Real‑Time Simulation.
• Strong experience using EMT software (e.g., PSCAD, EMTP, Power Factory) and real‑time simulation platforms (e.g., RTDS, OPAL‑RT, Typhoon HIL) or other simulation software (e.g., Simulink, PLECS).
• Knowledge of power systems and power electronics modeling and analysis, including generation, transmission, and distribution.
• Familiarity with hardware‑in‑the‑loop testing and real‑time control systems is an asset.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
