Policy Counsel

About the role

The Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) is seeking a Policy Counsel to join its Member Regulation Policy team. Reporting to the Director, Member Regulation Policy, you will help shape and maintain high‑quality regulatory standards for the Canadian investment industry.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and draft new and revised Dealer Member regulations and guidance in collaboration with CIRO staff and external stakeholders.
• Manage the review and approval process for proposed Dealer Member policy initiatives.
• Prepare meeting materials and present policy proposals to CIRO advisory committees.
• Provide external representation for CIRO, interpreting Dealer Member rules for regulators, dealers and other stakeholders.
• Conduct presentations on regulatory matters to industry participants.
• Support day‑to‑day operations of the Member Regulation Policy team.

Required profile

• Law degree (LL.B. or J.D.) and membership in good standing of a Canadian bar.
• Minimum three years of practising law in private practice or as in‑house counsel.
• Experience with projects or transactions is an asset.
• Completion of one or more Canadian securities‑related courses (e.g., Canadian Securities Course) is a plus.
• Prior compliance or legal experience at a CIRO dealer member firm is advantageous.
