Part‑Time Building Assistant for Recreation Centre

About the role

The Cowan Recreation Centre is seeking a reliable, hands‑on Building Assistant to help keep the new state‑of‑the‑art facility safe, clean and welcoming. This part‑time position supports daily operations, routine maintenance and the set‑up of spaces for sports, events and community programs.

Key responsibilities

• Greet visitors, anticipate needs and deliver a friendly, world‑class customer experience.
• Open and close the centre, including arming and disarming alarms.
• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on bleachers, netting, turf equipment, scoreboards and other facility assets.
• Set up and convert fields, gyms and rooms for games, practices, tournaments and special events, moving furniture, nets and equipment as required.
• Clean and maintain all interior areas (washrooms, change rooms, stands, foyers, courts, track) and handle custodial emergencies.
• Maintain outdoor areas by removing snow, applying salt, picking up litter and emptying exterior bins.
• Identify and report unsafe conditions, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

Required profile

• Service‑oriented attitude with a strong focus on safety and cleanliness.
• Flexible and detail‑oriented, able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Comfortable working in a fast‑paced recreation environment.

Required skills

• Basic facility maintenance and minor repair abilities.
• Experience with equipment set‑up and conversion for sports events.
• Ability to operate cleaning and custodial tools safely.
