Part-Time Lab Support Technician

About the role

Ayrton Energy is looking for a part‑time Lab Support Technician to assist its chemistry team. You will coordinate laboratory access, prepare and image samples, and ensure accurate documentation of all activities. This role supports the development of hydrogen storage technology for sustainable energy.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and book access to SEM and sputter coating equipment according to facility schedules.
• Transport samples between Ayrton Energy and contracted labs, handling and documenting them per established procedures.
• Prepare and mount samples for SEM analysis following company protocols.
• Operate sputter coating equipment to apply conductive coatings when required.
• Perform SEM imaging and collect data based on analysis requirements.
• Maintain accurate records of sample preparation, coating parameters, imaging activities, and session outcomes.
• Label, organize, and securely transfer image and data files to designated systems.
• Maintain a session log documenting sample identifiers, equipment usage, and any anomalies.
• Communicate equipment issues, scheduling conflicts, or sample‑related concerns with the technical team.

Required profile

• Enrolled in a diploma or degree program in chemistry, materials science, engineering, physics, nanoscience, or a related STEM field.
• Laboratory experience through coursework, research projects, co‑op placements, or prior employment.
• Comfortable learning and operating specialized laboratory and analytical equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures independently.
• Excellent organizational, documentation, communication, and time‑management skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel between facilities.
