Oxidizer Helper

About the role

IKO Industries Ltd., a manufacturer of roofing and building materials, is hiring an Oxidizer Helper in Calgary for a one-year fixed-term contract. The helper supports the Oxidizer Operator and works at the IKO Calgary General Labour rate of $27.09.

Key responsibilities

• Follow IKO's safety policies, programs and procedures, and complete health and safety pre-start checklists.
• Help complete daily operations checklists and SOCs, and assist the operator in keeping equipment running to standard.
• Monitor and record equipment readings, and report out-of-range readings to the operator.
• Help ensure products meet quality specifications and document quality checks at regular intervals.
• Operate a counterbalance or propane-powered forklift.
• Record production numbers and downtime causes using a computerized system and handwritten reports.
• Perform general housekeeping of the area and trailer, and carry out other duties assigned by supervisors.

Required profile

• Fluent in verbal and written English; highly motivated, self-starter with good communication skills.
• Previous experience in heavy-industrial manufacturing, construction or a similar industry preferred.
• Minimum 1 year of counterbalance forklift experience recommended.
• Comfortable working in a dusty environment, with attention to detail and manual dexterity.
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds routinely, stand for long periods, work at heights and in confined spaces, and operate a pallet jack.
• Able to work 12-hour shifts on alternate days with rotating weekends off, and flexible to other shifts, overtime and weekends.

Required skills

• Ability to read and follow safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and work instructions.
• Ability to read basic measurement tools.
