Nutrition Cook – Casual – 10 hours per week

About the role

The Positive Wellness Program Nutrition Cook prepares balanced, nutritious meals for around 50 people living with HIV or hepatitis C. Working under the Program Manager, the cook plans menus, orders food within budget, and ensures FoodSafe protocols are followed.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and cook hot, nutritious meals for participants.
• Maintain a clean, safe workspace in line with FoodSafe and Island Health protocols.
• Complete menu planning, food ordering, and record‑keeping tasks.
• Engage participants in a welcoming, non‑judgmental manner and support de‑escalation when needed.
• Follow safety and violence‑prevention protocols, including overdose response.
• Attend team meetings, 1‑on‑1 check‑ins, and ongoing training.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years experience preparing meals for 50+ people with FoodSafe procedures.
• Experience creating menu plans that meet diverse nutritional needs within a budget.
• Background working in healthcare or social service settings.
• Ability to build relationships with participants, volunteers, and coworkers.

Required skills

• FoodSafe Level 1 certification.
• First Aid with CPR‑C training.
• Operation of commercial kitchen equipment.
• Knowledge of nutritional needs of people living with HIV/HCV.
• Understanding of harm‑reduction, health‑promotion, and crisis‑intervention practices.

What we offer

• Pay starting at $31.98 per hour with stepped increases based on seniority.
• Union‑protected position under BCGEU paygrid 30.
• Additional 5% paid in lieu of vacation and 5% in lieu of statutory holidays.
• Pension contributions (9.31% additional for members of the Municipal Pension Plan).
• Flexible part‑time schedule: 10 hours/week, Monday and Wednesday 8:30 am‑1:30 pm.
