Nautical Science Instructor – Marine Institute

About the role

The School of Maritime Studies at the Marine Institute of Memorial University is seeking a full‑time Instructor to teach in the Diploma of Nautical Science Technology program, Transport Canada certification courses, and industry‑response short courses. The role involves both classroom and online delivery across university campuses.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver instruction for Nautical Science diploma, Transport Canada certification and short‑course programs.
• Develop and update course materials, curricula and online content.
• Participate in program review and collaborate with other instructors.
• Assess student performance, provide feedback and advise on work placements.
• Engage with industry partners to ensure program relevance.
• Contribute to the creation of industry‑specific nautical courses.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of experience in the marine transportation industry.
• Transport Canada Certificate of Competency at the Master Mariner level.
• Undergraduate degree in a maritime‑related field (or equivalent education/experience).
• Graduate degree and prior post‑secondary teaching experience are assets.
• Experience developing and delivering online curriculum is an asset.

Required skills

• Master Mariner certification (Transport Canada).
• Learning Management System (LMS) usage for online course delivery.
