Microgrid System Developer – Protection and Control

About the role

Huawei Canada’s Smart Grid Technology Lab is seeking a Microgrid System Developer to design, simulate, implement, and maintain microgrid control and protection systems within a French‑speaking work environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design, simulate, implement, and maintain microgrid control and protection systems.
• Produce and review protection and control schemes, functional design specifications, and support technical requirement formulations and stakeholder discussions.
• Develop and test microgrid protection and control logic, communication, and APIs for EMS/SCADA integration.
• Support hardware and software integration of protection and control systems, ensuring interoperability with protocol stacks such as IEC 60870‑5‑101/104, IEC 61850 MMS, Goose, DNP3, and Modbus.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• At least 3 years of experience in microgrid control and protection design and deployment.
• Familiarity with automation controllers, PLCs, RTUs, and IEC 61131.
• Proficiency in application‑level development using RTOS, C/C++, Linux, and FPGA/SoC platforms.
• Experience with offline EMT simulations and hardware‑in‑the‑loop (HIL) simulations.
