Microgrid System Developer – Energy Management & Control

About the role

Huawei Canada’s Smart Grid Technology Lab is seeking a Microgrid System Developer to design, implement and maintain energy management software for substation control and monitoring. The role focuses on embedded firmware, protocol integration and scalable system architecture within a cutting‑edge microgrid environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain EMS software modules for substation control and monitoring.
• Develop embedded software/firmware for substation controllers such as RTUs, IEDs and gateways.
• Integrate protocol stacks (IEC 60870‑5‑101/104, IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus) into control systems.
• Participate in system architecture design emphasizing scalability, reliability and performance.
• Develop control logic, communication drivers and APIs for EMS/SCADA integration.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
• 3+ years experience in microgrid or distributed energy system development, including design, simulation or deployment.
• Experience with controllers/PLCs is a valuable asset.
• Proficiency in application‑level development (RTOS, C/C++, Linux, FPGA/SoC platforms).
• Proficiency in microcontroller firmware development (Raspberry Pi, Arduino, ARM Cortex) and embedded networking protocols/APIs (Modbus/TCP, DNP3/IP, SPI, OpenSSL).
• Fluent English for regular communication with international teams.
