Mechanical Technician - Machinist

About the role

Innovasea, an aquatic solutions company focused on sustainable fish farming and fish tracking, is looking for an experienced, self-motivated Mechanical Technician with a Machinist background to join its Production Engineering team in Bedford, Nova Scotia. The team supports the Production Department in developing solutions for a growing, competitive worldwide market.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to a fast-paced, competitive production engineering team in an electronic manufacturing environment.
• Provide mechanical design and fabrication expertise for continuous improvement, new product introduction and automation projects.
• Work with Production teams to identify, design and fabricate mechanical jigs and fixtures for manufacturing.
• Design, fabricate and assemble fixtures, jigs and custom assemblies.
• Create and maintain CAD drawing packages to company and industry standards.
• Program, operate and maintain CNC milling equipment, and perform manual lathe and milling operations.
• Maintain the onsite machine shop and related equipment.

Required profile

• Technical certification as a Machinist, post-secondary training as a Mechanical Engineering Technician, or equivalent.
• 3-5 years of CNC programming experience.
• 3-5 years of experience operating CNC equipment.
• 3-5 years of experience operating manual machinery.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work in a team and adapt to changing priorities.

Required skills

• Machining with traditional and CNC equipment, including CNC programming.
• 3D CAD and mechanical design skills for production fixtures, jigs and automation equipment.
• Preferred: Mastercam, Haas CNC equipment and SolidWorks.
