Mechanical Engineer – Mechanical Design & Systems Development

About the role

General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and development of mechanical components, subsystems, and systems for rugged military platforms. You will work in a multidisciplinary team to deliver high‑quality, mission‑critical solutions that operate under harsh environmental conditions.

Key responsibilities

• Support the full product design life‑cycle from requirements definition through production ramp‑up, including prototype procurement, assembly, verification, and qualification testing.
• Collaborate with Systems Engineers and Senior Mechanical Engineers to derive and verify mechanical and environmental requirements.
• Create mechanical concepts, designs, and detailed drawings for electronic enclosures and other rugged systems using 3D solid‑modeling and simulation tools.
• Perform environmental tests such as thermal cycling, vibration, and shock for qualification and design verification.
• Lead Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations and develop Assembly Methods Instructions (AMIs).
• Review and approve product data changes and mentor junior designers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Science, or a related technical field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical design or systems development.
• Strong problem‑solving ability in a multidisciplinary environment.

Required skills

• 3D solid‑modeling (CAD) and simulation software.
• Mechanical design of electronic enclosures and rugged systems.
• Environmental testing expertise (thermal cycling, vibration, shock).
• Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) investigation.
• Assembly Methods Instructions (AMI) development and product data change management.
