Mechanical Engineer-in-Training

About the role

CBCL is looking for an early‑career Mechanical Engineer‑in‑Training to join its Industrial Services team supporting pulp and paper projects across Atlantic Canada. You will work alongside experienced engineers on sustainable, client‑focused mechanical solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Support design and delivery of mechanical upgrades, equipment replacements, and plant infrastructure improvements for pulp and paper facilities.
• Assist with calculations, equipment layouts, piping design, specifications, cost estimates, and technical memoranda under senior engineer guidance.
• Coordinate mechanical design requirements with process, electrical, civil, structural, and environmental disciplines.
• Participate in site visits, field investigations, and construction reviews to document conditions and support design development.
• Review shop drawings, respond to RFIs, and ensure construction aligns with design intent.
• Help with commissioning, start‑up support, and troubleshooting of industrial mechanical systems.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering and eligibility for registration as an Engineer‑in‑Training with APEGNB.
• Early‑career experience (co‑op, internship) in consulting, industrial environments, or related mechanical systems is an asset.
• Interest in industrial mechanical design, including piping, pumps, tanks, pressure equipment, utilities, and process support infrastructure.
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to job sites within Atlantic Canada.

Required skills

• Familiarity with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant 3D, Revit, SolidWorks, or Inventor (software experience is a plus).
• Detail‑oriented, organized, strong communication skills, and ability to manage priorities in a deadline‑driven environment.
