Mechanical Engineer – Building Systems

About the role

AECOM Buildings + Places is looking for a motivated Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and delivery of mechanical systems for building and infrastructure projects across Canada. Based in Burnaby, BC, the role offers hybrid work and occasional travel to nearby cities.

Key responsibilities

• Design HVAC systems, including duct and pipe sizing, equipment selection, and schedule preparation.
• Develop complete plumbing systems, covering potable water, drainage, pump sizing, and water heater selection.
• Design HVAC control strategies and integrate them with Building Management Systems (BMS) and SCADA platforms.
• Perform self‑quality control reviews of mechanical drawings, calculations, and specifications before senior review.
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, and project managers throughout concept, design, construction, and commissioning phases.

Required profile

• Professional engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Experience in building‑level mechanical design, preferably in light industrial or municipal facilities.
• Strong understanding of Canadian building codes and standards.
• Ability to work both independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
