Managing Director & Senior Market Risk Officer

About the role

The Managing Director & Senior Market Risk Officer provides strategic direction and oversight for market risk activities across Latin America and the Emerging Markets Desk in the United States. Based in Toronto, the role ensures that trading, treasury and counter‑party credit risk activities align with the bank’s risk appetite and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a customer‑focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader bank resources.
• Oversee market risk officers in Peru, Mexico, Chile, Brazil, the Caribbean and the U.S. Emerging Markets Desk.
• Provide independent risk‑reward analysis for new business initiatives and approve limits under delegated authority.
• Maintain regular dialogue with business lines and control functions on market developments, risk profiles and P&L drivers.
• Ensure accurate valuation of trading portfolios and maintain related policies.
• Recommend and approve trading, CCR and treasury limits, ensuring compliance with the bank’s risk appetite.
• Coach and develop a diverse team of market risk managers while communicating the bank’s risk culture and appetite.
• Promote effective and efficient operations in line with Scotiabank’s values, code of conduct and global sales principles.

Required profile

• Bilingual in English and Spanish.
• Willingness to relocate to Toronto.
• Extensive experience leading market risk teams in Latin America and emerging markets.
• Proven ability to manage trading, treasury and counter‑party credit risk.
• Strong communication skills to interact with business lines, control functions and senior management.
