Manager, Faculty HR

About the role

The Faculty HR Manager leads the human resources function for all faculty members within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia. This 15‑month fixed‑term position provides comprehensive HR support, from appointments to promotions, and ensures consistent HR practices across roughly 47 departments, schools, centres, and institutes.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and standardise HR policies, procedures and systems for faculty across the Faculty of Medicine.
• Resolve complex faculty HR issues including appointments, reappointments, promotions, terminations, and related inquiries.
• Design and deliver training programmes for faculty and administrative staff.
• Advise the Dean, Vice Deans, academic leaders and department administrators on HR matters throughout the faculty lifecycle.
• Liaise with UBC Payroll and Faculty Relations to ensure seamless HR operations.
• Provide expert HR guidance on a broad range of faculty‑related topics within the Faculty of Medicine and the wider university.

Required profile

• Significant experience managing HR functions in an academic or research environment.
• Strong knowledge of faculty appointment, promotion, and termination processes.
• Proven ability to develop and deliver HR training and development programmes.
• Excellent advisory skills for senior academic and administrative leaders.
