Library Page – Sorting & Shelving

About the role

The Library Page supports the daily operations of Toronto Public Library branches by ensuring that books and other materials are organized and readily accessible to patrons. This part‑time position involves sorting, shelving, and performing shelf reads, as well as handling various support tasks such as packing, unpacking, and basic material maintenance.

Key responsibilities

• Sort books and other library materials to maintain order on carts and shelves.
• Shelve books and other library materials accurately according to classification.
• Perform shelf reads to verify items are in correct locations.
• Pack and unpack deliveries of library items.
• Carry out ancillary duties including photocopying, straightening shelves, tidying tables and lounges, and processing and repairing materials (typing, taping, labeling, recovering books, cleaning and inspecting audiovisual equipment).

Required profile

• Minimum age of 14 years.
• Appreciation of public service philosophy and commitment to equity, access and human‑rights principles.
• Ability to read English and distinguish numbers.
• Strong attention to detail and capacity to work independently following instructions.
• Friendly, courteous demeanor when interacting with patrons and staff.
