Lecturer in Social Work

About the role

We are seeking a motivated and collaborative individual to join our team as a Lecturer in Social Work. The role involves teaching on postgraduate programmes such as the Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) and MA Social Work, as well as delivering continuing professional development (CPD) courses. You will work in a dynamic, inclusive environment that values student‑centred learning and high‑quality social work education.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver teaching and assessment for the AMHP programme, MA Social Work and CPD provision.
• Provide academic advisement and effective student support.
• Contribute to the development of social work education and related support services.
• Build and maintain links with external bodies, employers and professional organisations.
• Participate in collaborative work with people with lived experience of social work.

Required profile

• Understanding of contemporary social work practice education for qualifying and post‑qualifying students in England and Wales.
• Recent experience with the statutory AMHP role and its implementation.
• Demonstrable scholarship experience or potential to develop it.
• Relevant first and higher degrees (MA/MSc level) and current registration as a social worker with Social Work England.
• Desirable: experience supporting students on practice placements and working collaboratively with people with lived experience.
