Lead Fire Suppression Systems Designer

About the role

Design Works Engineering Ltd. is seeking a Lead Fire Suppression Systems Designer to join its Edmonton team. Reporting to the President & CEO, you will lead the design, analysis, and implementation of fire protection systems across a variety of commercial and residential projects.

Key responsibilities

• Design and specify fire suppression, alarm, smoke management, and emergency lighting systems while ensuring code compliance.
• Prepare and stamp engineering drawings and specifications, and review client specifications for integration.
• Write technical reports, perform fire risk assessments, and conduct fire dynamics simulations.
• Review shop drawings, obtain supplier proposals, and coordinate with cross‑functional teams.
• Visit project sites for inspections, audits, and construction compliance verification.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with a fire protection focus.
• Minimum 10 years of experience designing fire protection systems for commercial and multi‑family buildings.
• P.Eng. designation in good standing (asset).
• Strong communication skills and demonstrated leadership or business development experience.
