Laboratory Technician/Assistant

About the role

The Department of Human Science at Georgetown University seeks a Laboratory Technician/Assistant to support teaching labs and faculty research. This full‑time, on‑campus position prepares laboratory materials, assists students, and contributes to ongoing research projects.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and set up laboratory spaces and materials for courses such as Human Biology, Microbiology, Molecular and Cellular Fundamentals of Health and Disease, and Genetics in Health & Disease.
• Assist students during lab sessions, provide supplemental instruction, and ensure safety and compliance.
• Maintain laboratory inventory, equipment, and consumables.
• Support faculty research by performing wet‑lab techniques outside of scheduled class times.
• Coordinate with the department chair and teaching assistants to align lab activities with curriculum goals.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in a relevant scientific field.
• At least one year of experience with biology and microbiology procedures or wet‑lab technical work.
• Strong verbal, written, and mathematical communication skills.

Required skills

• Preparation of stock solutions.
• Standard molecular biology techniques.
• Tissue‑culture skills.
• Ability to read and interpret bacterial and fungal cultures.
