Lab Helper B – Part‑time Laboratory Support

About the role

The Lab Helper B will support the research laboratory of Professor Karamchandani at McGill University. This part‑time position involves a mix of administrative and hands‑on laboratory tasks, following established procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Enter and manage data in laboratory informatics systems.
• Perform cellular and molecular tasks such as sample processing and DNA extractions.
• Review clinical charts and transfer selected information (e.g., muscle‑biopsy features) into the LORIS database.
• Respond to patient queries about the virtual consent platform, including text and audio settings.
• Provide information about participation in the C‑BIG study and guide patients to the phlebotomy suite.
• Collaborate with clinical teams to identify enthusiastic patient partners.

Required profile

• High school diploma.
• At least one year of relevant experience in a laboratory or administrative setting.
• Authorization to work in Canada and willingness to work in Quebec.
• Proficiency in English (level 4).

Required skills

• Data entry and database management.
• DNA extraction techniques.
• Sample processing for cellular and molecular assays.
• Familiarity with the LORIS data‑entry instrument.

What we offer

• Hourly wage of $16.85 CAD.
• Approximately 10 hours per week, part‑time schedule.
• Fixed‑term contract from September 2026 to April 2027.
