Junior Software Engineer

About the role

SMART Technologies is seeking a Junior Software Engineer to contribute to SMART Control, the cloud platform that manages interactive displays and appliances worldwide. You will work on both backend and frontend features, helping to deliver real‑time communication, device management, and emergency alert capabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Develop RESTful web services in Java using Spring Boot or Jersey.
• Implement frontend features with Vue.js (Vue 3).
• Collaborate with frontend teams to integrate new product functionality.
• Design and add new capabilities to backend services that connect and monitor SMART displays.
• Partner with the test team to ensure adequate automated test coverage.
• Participate in the full Agile development lifecycle, including sprint planning and retrospectives.
• Set up monitoring and observability metrics for new services.
• Document technical designs and maintain existing documentation.

Required profile

• Self‑directed, fast learner comfortable with new and legacy technologies.
• Strong computer‑science fundamentals (data structures, concurrency, distributed systems, databases).
• Excellent communication skills and ability to propose solutions proactively.

Required skills

• Java programming.
• Spring Boot or Jersey frameworks.
• Vue.js / Vue 3 for frontend development.
• Understanding of WebSockets and persistent connections.
• Test‑driven development and unit testing.
• Agile development practices.
