Intermediate Electrical Technologist – Building Systems Design

About the role

CBCL is seeking an Intermediate Electrical Technologist to join its Halifax office. You will contribute to the design and coordination of electrical systems for a variety of building, industrial, water, wastewater and infrastructure projects, supporting the delivery of high‑quality engineering solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design and coordinate electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, controls, life safety, communications, security and access control for commercial, institutional, industrial, infrastructure and residential projects.
• Prepare technical reports and recommendations based on research and design analysis.
• Develop detailed electrical drawings and 3D models using AutoCAD and Revit, ensuring compliance with BIM standards.
• Support engineering delivery by translating design concepts into complete drawing packages and coordinated documentation.
• Mentor junior technologists, foster teamwork and drive continuous improvement.
• Apply electrical codes and building standards to ensure quality and regulatory compliance.
• Participate in site surveys, review shop drawings, respond to RFIs and perform field reviews.
• Coordinate electrical layouts with architectural, mechanical, structural and civil teams to resolve conflicts.

Required profile

• Diploma in engineering technology with registration or eligibility for registration with a provincial technology association.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in electrical system design.
• Strong knowledge of building, energy and electrical codes and standards.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit for electrical design and coordination.
• Excellent communication, organizational and time‑management skills.
