About the role
Spark Power is seeking an Intermediate Electrical Engineer to join its Calgary team. The role involves managing electrical design, drafting, procurement, construction and commissioning activities for medium and high voltage projects while ensuring compliance with safety and client standards.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate electrical design, drafting, material procurement, construction and commissioning on assigned projects.
- Prepare technical documents such as electrical drawings, single line diagrams, three‑line diagrams, equipment layouts, cable and conduit schedules, and specifications.
- Perform and verify electrical design calculations and conduct power system studies, including arc‑flash analysis using ETAP or SKM.
- Support senior engineers in report preparation, design review and technical documentation.
- Provide field support to construction and site teams, making decisions based on established guidelines.
- Collaborate with internal drafting team and ensure adherence to Spark Power and client safety protocols.
Required profile
- Graduate of an accredited Electrical Engineering program.
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA.
- Familiarity with the Canadian Electrical Code; knowledge of international standards is a plus.
- 4‑8 years of experience in utilities, processing, power generation or mining.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
Required skills
- Proficiency with ETAP or similar power system analysis software.
- Experience using SKM for arc‑flash and other studies.
- Electrical design calculations for 120/208 V, 480 V, 600 V, medium voltage (4.16 kV‑25 kV) and high voltage (138 kV‑240 kV) systems.
- Electrical drafting, creation of SLDs, three‑line diagrams, cable and conduit schedules.
- Electrical database management and technical specification writing.
