Indigenous Student Ambassador

About the role

The Indigenous Student Ambassador serves as a primary liaison between McGill University and prospective Indigenous students and communities, providing culturally respectful guidance and support throughout the admissions journey.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the primary point of contact for prospective students and communities, representing McGill with cultural sensitivity and respect.
• Host both virtual and in‑person campus tours, delivering information on programs, admissions, and student life.
• Advise prospective Indigenous students on academic programs, admissions processes, financial aid, and support services.
• Participate in virtual and in‑person student panels, information sessions, cultural events, and “Talk with a McGill student” sessions.
• Contribute to social‑media campaigns on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube, and assist with video and photo editing as needed.
• Manage recruitment kiosks during outreach events and provide written feedback for continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with media relations to share compelling stories that promote the university’s culture and offerings.
• Conduct market research to identify target student populations for focused outreach efforts.

Required profile

• Indigenous undergraduate student currently enrolled at McGill in Arts, Education, Engineering, Management, Music, Nursing or Science.
• General knowledge of the downtown campus and student life.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Outgoing, able to engage with students and families, and adaptable to changing situations.
• Extremely reliable and punctual.
• Involvement in McGill community activities (clubs, services, athletics) is an asset.
• Customer service and social‑media experience is an asset.
