Hydro Operator

About the role

The Hydro Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a run‑of‑river hydro facility. You will conduct daily inspections, monitor performance, and ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and assess facility performance through daily checks and annual reviews.
• Perform O&M duties, inspections, and corrective/preventive maintenance.
• Respond promptly to operational upsets and troubleshoot equipment.
• Collect and analyse hydrometric, water‑quality, and meteorological data.
• Maintain stream gauges, download data and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders and regulatory agencies.
• Prepare and submit reports on HSE, budget, production and availability.
• Uphold BluEarth’s HSE policies and company values.

Required profile

• Journeyman Electrician, Millwright or equivalent trade certification (asset, not mandatory).
• Minimum five years of operations experience, preferably in hydro facilities.
• Strong problem‑solving attitude, proactive communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and support multiple concurrent projects.

Required skills

• Electrical wiring and troubleshooting.
• Mechanical troubleshooting and equipment maintenance.
• Hydrometric monitoring and data collection.
• Water‑quality and meteorological data acquisition.
• Stream gauge installation and maintenance.
• Proficiency with business software packages (e.g., MS Office).
