HVAC Journeyperson Technician

About the role

Black & McDonald’s Northern Ontario team is growing and is looking for a committed, collaborative HVAC Journeyperson to maintain, upgrade, troubleshoot and repair HVAC equipment for optimal lifespan.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine predictive planned maintenance and log readings as per CMMS schedule.
• Complete work orders, deficiency reports and field quotations for additional work requests.
• Assemble and install refrigeration and air‑conditioning components.
• Test, troubleshoot, overhaul and repair heating, ventilation, air‑conditioning and refrigeration systems, including leak testing.
• Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical/electrical drawings and HVAC/R schematics.
• Respond to environment/comfort complaints and start up/shut down major building equipment seasonally.
• Handle, recover and store refrigerants and test/repair electronic components.

Required profile

• Valid 313A refrigeration certificate.
• Minimum 3 years experience as a Journeyman HVAC Technician.
• Valid G1 driver’s licence and ODP certificate.
• Membership in local 787 Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Union.
• Willingness to work varying shifts, weekends and holidays.
• Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights.

Required skills

• Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and DDC control systems.
• Ability to read and work from mechanical/electrical drawings and HVAC/R schematics.
• Troubleshooting and overhauling HVAC/R equipment.
• Refrigerant handling, recovery and storage.
