High School Teacher – Indigenous Curriculum Specialist

About the role

The Beaufort Delta Divisional Council seeks a dynamic High School Teacher to lead the development and delivery of a competency‑based curriculum that honors Indigenous knowledge, culture, and land‑based learning. This full‑time position will work closely with Elders, community members, and educators to create an inclusive, equity‑focused learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with educators, Elders, and community members to design and implement a competency‑based curriculum rooted in Indigenous knowledge and values.
• Foster a learning environment that respects and incorporates diverse Indigenous perspectives, ensuring the curriculum reflects local Indigenous culture.
• Implement strategies to promote equity and inclusion within the school community, addressing disparities and fostering a sense of belonging for all students.
• Liaise between the school and the community, seeking input, collaboration, and feedback to continuously improve educational programs.
• Develop and integrate land‑based learning opportunities into the curriculum, fostering a deep connection to the land and traditional practices.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Education.
• Eligibility for a Northwest Territories teaching certificate.
• Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, history, and traditions.
• Experience implementing inquiry‑based instructional pedagogy.
• Experience in curriculum implementation with a focus on competency‑based education.
• Experience in competency‑based assessment and evaluation.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Understanding of Northwest Territories’ Inclusive Schooling practices.
• Knowledge of land‑based education principles and practices.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
