Haul Truck / Mine Equipment Operator - Permanent

About the role

Elk Valley Resources (EVR), a steelmaking coal producer owned by Glencore, is hiring permanent Haul Truck / Mine Equipment Operators for its open pit coal mines in the Elk Valley of British Columbia. Operators safely drive haul trucks to transport coal or rock and provide operational support in the mine. New employees receive structured internal training and career growth opportunities.

Key responsibilities

• Operate haul trucks (180-400 ton capacity at three sites; at the fourth site, new hires start on dozers and graders because haul trucks are autonomous)
• Handle electrical cables, deliver supplies and assist with equipment and autonomous haulage support
• Work safely in seasonal outdoor conditions, including rain, fog, snow, winter temperatures, uneven terrain, dust, noise and vibration
• Communicate with dispatch, operators and supervisors using two-way radios and onboard computers
• Carry out pre- and post-operational inspections and complete equipment reports
• Climb, access and exit equipment and lift up to 50 lbs
• Follow health and safety programs and policies

Required profile

• High school diploma, GED or five years of related work experience
• Valid Class 5 driver's licence, or equivalent, without learner's restrictions
• Ability to stay focused during long hours and in adverse weather, and to climb ladders up to about 3 m and lift up to 50 lbs
• Strong commitment to personal and co-worker safety
• Reliable ability to commute to or relocate to the Sparwood, B.C. area; temporary housing support is offered

Preferred experience

• Heavy or agricultural machinery (forklift, skid steer, loader, tractor, combine)
• Hands-on, safety-focused work in industrial, construction, farming, forestry or similar settings
• Two-way radio use and structured procedures, basic computer literacy
