Geotechnical Field Technician – Materials Inspection & Testing

About the role

DS is seeking a Materials Inspection & Testing Engineering Technician to support projects in the Ottawa area. This role offers an experienced field technician the chance to develop their career within a dynamic engineering consulting environment.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct field inspection and testing services for civil construction and infrastructure projects.
• Perform compaction testing of soils and asphalt using nuclear density gauges.
• Carry out concrete testing and inspection in accordance with applicable standards.
• Conduct subgrade soil evaluations and field observations.
• Collect material samples and complete field documentation and reporting.
• Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
• Coordinate with project managers, contractors, and clients regarding field observations and testing results.
• Maintain accurate daily reports, testing records, and laboratory documentation.
• Ensure all workplace health and safety procedures are followed at all times.
• Provide support for additional field, laboratory, and office activities as required.

Required profile

• Civil Engineering Technician/Technology diploma or related education preferred.
• 3–5 years of experience in materials inspection and testing or geotechnical field services.
• CCIL certification for concrete is strongly preferred.
• Valid Ontario G-Class driver’s licence with access to a reliable vehicle.
• Willingness to travel within the Ottawa region and surrounding areas.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and work flexible hours in a fast‑paced field environment.
