Geologist or Geologist-In-Training (Temporary)

About the role

Elk Valley Resources (EVR), a steelmaking coal producer operating four mines in the Elk Valley of British Columbia, is looking for motivated and experienced individuals to join its exploration team for the 2027 exploration drilling projects. The role is based at one of EVR's Mine Operations or Projects in the Sparwood and Elkford area and supports the planning and execution of exploration and geoscience programs, while overseeing field contractors and coordinating field-based activities.

Key responsibilities

• Assist mine geologists with drill program planning, preparation and logistics before contractors arrive on site.
• Provide on-site project coordination and field supervision for earthworks, drilling, sampling and geophysical wireline logging.
• Manage contractor supervision with a daily presence in the project area.
• Complete daily cost, productivity and project status reporting.
• Act as main liaison between contractors and EVR teams in Mine Operations, Engineering & Geology, Health & Safety and Contractor Compliance.
• Collect and store drilling and sampling data in EVR's geological database, including drillhole metadata, analytical results, downhole geophysics, core logging and field mapping.
• Monitor field activities against established standards and help prepare program close-out and technical reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science in Geology or a related discipline, with P.Geo. or G.I.T. status with EGBC, and eligibility to work in Canada.
• Minimum of 3 years of geoscience experience, including mineral exploration with RC, diamond coring and/or sonic drilling in greenfield and/or brownfield settings.
• H2S Alive, BC Mine Supervisor and First Aid certifications (can be obtained at onboarding).
• Valid Class 5 driver's licence or equivalent.

Required skills

• Geologic mapping, core logging, geochemical and geophysical applications (an asset)
• Coal and/or sedimentary basin geology experience (an asset)
• Working knowledge of acQuire and/or MineSight software is preferable
