Full‑time Lawyer – Employment & Human Rights

About the role

The Okanagan Thompson Legal Clinic is seeking a full‑time, on‑site Lawyer to join its multidisciplinary team in Kamloops, BC. You will provide legal advice and representation across a range of areas, including employment, human rights, income security, limited family law, debt, judicial reviews, and housing.

Key responsibilities

• Meet with clients to assess legal needs and provide tailored advice.
• Conduct legal research and interpret legislation, case law, and administrative decisions.
• Draft and review pleadings, affidavits, legal opinions, and correspondence.
• Negotiate settlements and represent clients before tribunals and courts.
• Collaborate with family law and poverty law advocates on case strategy.
• Participate in community outreach and public legal education initiatives.
• Maintain accurate client files and ensure compliance with professional and ethical standards.

Required profile

• Licensed lawyer in good standing with the relevant law society.
• Experience or strong interest in employment, human rights, income security, family law, debt, judicial review, or housing matters.
• Excellent legal research, analytical, and written communication abilities.
• Client‑centered advocacy skills, including interviewing, counseling, negotiation, and representation.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment and manage a varied caseload.
• Commitment to access to justice, equity, and trauma‑informed, culturally safe practice.
• Familiarity with BC community resources and social support systems is an asset.
• Experience in legal aid, community legal clinics, or public interest law is an asset; additional language skills are beneficial.
