Frontend Engineer

About the role

Tailscale is looking for a skilled Frontend Engineer to own the technical direction of its next‑generation web console. This full‑time, fully remote position sits at the intersection of user experience, browser security, and internal platform design.

Key responsibilities

• Define and drive the frontend architecture for the new console, including routing, state management, and shared abstractions.
• Design and maintain cross‑origin authentication and session infrastructure (auth flows, CORS policies, CSRF protection, cookie strategies).
• Build and operate a frontend serving platform that hosts multiple Tailscale products under a unified workflow.
• Establish shared conventions and design patterns to consolidate distinct product experiences.
• Create tooling and abstractions that enable non‑frontend engineers to build accessible, production‑quality UI.
• Partner with Product Design to translate complex identity concepts into intuitive user experiences.
• Collaborate on experimentation, A/B testing, analytics instrumentation, and feature rollout strategies.
• Define and improve the frontend testing strategy, including integration and end‑to‑end coverage.

Required profile

• Full‑time availability and ability to work remotely.
• Strong experience in frontend architecture and platform engineering.
• Comfort moving between product engineering and platform engineering tasks.
• Ability to collaborate across design, growth, product, and engineering teams.

Required skills
