Fractional Controller – Media & Production

About the role

We are looking for a seasoned CPA to join our Toronto‑based media firm on a fractional basis. This 20‑hour‑per‑week, 2–3 month contract focuses on leading high‑impact financial reporting and internal control projects that enable fast‑paced creative and production operations.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct a gap analysis and implement a robust internal control framework for digital media assets and production expenses.
• Streamline month‑end and quarter‑end close processes to deliver accurate executive reporting packages.
• Lead the upcoming annual external audit, acting as the primary liaison and ensuring audit‑ready documentation.
• Audit and improve the financial reporting system (Microsoft Dynamics/NetSuite) and re‑map the chart of accounts for media‑specific revenue streams.
• Review and align revenue recognition policies with standards for multi‑year contracts and production milestones.
• Design and deploy a rolling 13‑week cash‑flow forecast model tailored to media production cycles.
• Oversee provincial and federal tax compliance, including media‑specific tax credits.

Required profile

• CPA designation (CA, CGA, or CMA) is mandatory.
• 3–5+ years of experience in a financial controllership role within media, advertising, or not‑for‑profit sectors.
• Proven track record of leading internal control implementations and reporting automation projects.
