FOI Coordinator

About the role

The Freedom of Information (FOI) Coordinator will lead Metrolinx’s response to FOI requests, ensuring compliance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA). This 15‑month contract position is based on‑site at Metrolinx’s 20 Bay Street office in Toronto and works closely with senior leaders across the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver timely responses to a high volume of complex FOI requests, analysing sensitive information and applying relevant exemptions.
• Guide program staff through record searches, prepare notices, and conduct consultations with third parties and senior executives.
• Design, implement and maintain policies, processes and procedures that satisfy legislative requirements under FIPPA.
• Create and deliver training workshops on FOI legislation and procedural updates for staff at all levels.
• Prepare the annual FOI report for the Information and Privacy Commissioner and manage publication requirements.
• Provide expert advice, interpretation and recommendations on FOI matters, including appeals, legal opinions and case law.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience handling FOI or privacy‑related requests in a public‑sector environment.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess complex policy issues under tight deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for briefing senior executives and preparing clear reports.
• Ability to work collaboratively in an on‑site, team‑oriented setting.

Required skills
