Focus Week Workshop Instructor – Law (Clauses & Human Rights)

About the role

The Faculty of Law at McGill University is seeking an experienced legal professional to teach a Focus Week workshop titled "Clauses Dérogatoires et Droits de la Personne" during the Fall 2026 term. The course is delivered in French and provides an in‑depth examination of derogatory clauses, their historical context, theoretical debates, and current litigation.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver lecture content across three learning blocks: contextual, theoretical, and practical.
• Facilitate classroom discussions and guide students through analysis of case law related to section 33 of the Canadian Charter.
• Assess student performance through assignments, presentations, and examinations.
• Stay current with evolving jurisprudence and integrate recent Supreme Court decisions into the curriculum.
• Collaborate with faculty members to ensure alignment with program objectives.

Required profile

• First degree in law (LL.B., J.D., or equivalent).
• Several years of significant legal practice or professional experience in the relevant area.
• Demonstrated experience teaching undergraduate law students in a bilingual (French/English) environment.
• Strong knowledge of the historical use, theoretical debates, and contemporary litigation concerning derogatory clauses.
