Flight Dispatcher

About the role

WestJet is looking for a Flight Dispatcher to join its Flight Dispatch team. The role involves maintaining safe and efficient operational control of flights across a fleet that includes Dash‑8‑400, Boeing 737NG, 737‑MAX and 787 aircraft. Dispatchers work closely with the Pilot in Command and operate 24/7/365, with schedules that may include days, evenings, weekends, overnight and holidays.

Key responsibilities

• Exercise co‑authority operational control over flights in accordance with Canadian and foreign regulations and WestJet policies.
• Analyze weather, NOTAMs, aerodrome suitability, navigation aids and other operational constraints.
• Perform flight planning, route analysis, fuel calculations and prepare, file and amend operational flight plans.
• Maintain Flight Watch for all flights within the sector of operation.
• Provide comprehensive crew briefings and coordinate aircraft MEL and maintenance limitations with Maintenance Control.
• Obtain airport curfew extensions when required and communicate irregular operation information to Lead Flight Dispatcher and Commercial Operations.

Required profile

• Successful completion of Transport Canada Flight Dispatch Generic Examinations (FDOPS and FDMET).
• Radio Telephone Restricted Operator Certificate – Aeronautical (ROC‑A).
• Minimum age of 21 years as required by Transport Canada.
• One year of flight dispatch experience in a CARS 705 Type A or B operational control system (preferred).
• Related experience in a Flight Operations team, FAA Dispatch License, Commercial Pilot License or Flight Service Specialist experience are assets.
