Fleet Labourer

About the role

The Fleet Labourer supports the Vehicle Department at BC Rapid Transit by assisting technicians and service personnel with equipment repair, maintenance, and shop upkeep. This hands‑on position is essential for keeping the SkyTrain fleet operating safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Assist technicians and service persons with scheduled and unscheduled vehicle maintenance.
• Perform shop cleanup and general maintenance of the vehicle department.
• Operate the BCRTC NRV using a valid Class 5 driver’s licence.
• Use hand and power tools for basic support‑equipment maintenance.
• Attend required technical and safety training.
• Respond promptly to emergencies following established procedures.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in an industrial or maintenance environment; rail maintenance experience preferred.
• Physically fit – able to lift, carry, push, pull, stand for long periods and perform repetitive motions.
• Willingness to work shifts and handle a high volume of tasks.

Required skills

• Proficiency with hand tools.
• Proficiency with power tools.
• Class 5 driver’s licence for NRV operation.
• Basic vehicle support‑equipment maintenance.
